Natural Character Traits
Listening to this excellent podcast really got me thinking about strengths & how they really are contextual.
What you consider to be a strength of yours might be your biggest weakness/blind spot in certain situations & vice versa.
I agree with Simon, we shouldn’t look at ourselves through the lens of strengths & weaknesses, which doesn’t bode well for a lot of psychometric tools out there, we are all a lot more complex than that.
I think we need a new language for strengths to help us understand ourselves better.
I think reframing them as ‘Natural Character Traits’ & viewing ourselves through this lens could be game changing!
I believe if we challenge what we consider to be our strengths and instead think about what our Natural Character Traits are (the things/characteristics that come naturally to us) we could better understand the impact we have in the different situations, or people we come across in both our personal & working lives.
If we know what our Natural Character Traits are we are in a better place to do something about them, you are unlikely to change your behaviour to suit a situation or interaction with a person different to yourself if you consider it to be one of your strengths. I believe this reframing can be really powerful in helping us all unlock our own version of elite performance & generally being better human beings.
